Responsibilities

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for collaborating with business leaders, department managers, and employees to foster an IDEAL culture. Reporting to the Director of Operations at the site and indirectly to the North America HR Leader of IDEAL Electrical, Human Resources Manager is a key member of the Management Teams and drives the organizational development activities that supports the business strategies and results for the site.  This role manages all human resource related issues for a manufacturing facility with professional, production, technical, and administrative employees. 

 

Key responsibilities for this role include HR and benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, policy implementation, recruitment, organizational development and implementing HR best practices.  This role proactively communicates and acts as a change agent while balancing employee needs with business objectives to create integrated solutions.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Employee Advocate/Relations:

  • Assist in building management capability to facilitate an open, inclusive, IDEAL culture-based environment that enables effective employee relations.   Ensure role is perceived as an objective employee resource and escalation path for unresolved employee relations issues.   May conduct investigations and provide conflict resolution as necessary.
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate employee records.
  • Oversee weekly payroll administration.
  • Mediates and resolve complex employee relations issues; conduct thorough and objective investigation and performance management when necessary.
  • Lead company Long Service Awards Program and other company hosted & holiday events.
  • Lead wellness programs.

Organizational Development, Recruiting & On Boarding:

  • Serve as a key member of the site management team, participating in business staff meetings to assist in driving business results. 
  • Develop and drive people and organizational development strategies that are aligned with the business strategy.
  • Coach management team ensuring that they are delivering on results and inspiring their teams.
  • Partner with management to develop effective leadership and management succession planning.  Ensure creation of a talent pipeline, succession planning, management development and career development for employees. 
  • Provide input on workforce and succession planning as well as assist in business unit restructuring and organizational development.
  • Recommend and initiate activities that increase organizational performance including leadership effectiveness, operational performance, talent growth and teambuilding.
  • Partner with department managers to identify recruitment needs and leads the recruitment process.
  • Manage the partnership with IDEAL’s temporary agency to ensure the company's workforce can adjust when necessary.
  • Coordinate onboarding procedures, processes and reporting.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Oversee local benefits and compensation programs, performance management programs.
  • Lead the annual performance management, goal setting and calibration processes (PMP).
  • Working with IDEAL’s Total Rewards Director and Regional Controller, lead benefits for the Region including benchmarking, vendor analysis, vendor recommendations and vendor management.
  • Annually participate and report on the Region’s pension program to IDEAL Industries Retirement & Benefits Committee.
  • Benefit & HRIS Administration:
    • Maintain status reports and pay changes to ensure accuracy and alignment between payroll and benefit systems.
    • Ensure accuracy of HRIS benefit information.
    • Administration of disability management and worker’s compensation (WSIB) programs.
    • Annual pension reporting to the FSRAO.

Health & Safety:

  • Member of the Health & Safety Committee.
  • Work with departments to identify health & safety solutions.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all Employment Standards, labors laws and IDEAL company policies.
  • Interprets human resources policies and procedures to employees and managers.
  • Lead relationship with Human Resource legal counsel and other government agencies (Services Canada and Worker’s Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).

Corporate Initiatives:

  • Develops and maintains expertise of IDEAL INDUSTRIES Human Resources programs and initiatives working closely with Corporate Human Resources team on Company initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the broader HR team (Compensation and Benefits, Recruiting, and HRIS) to ensure effective people programs in the business
  • May assist in the coordination of activities for other members of the HR team with respect to projects, reports, and metrics.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related major required.
  • 5 years of HR experience required. Background in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience with HRIS systems (preferably ADP Workforce Now).
  • Must be a “hands-on” professional with a proven knowledge of salaried and hourly staffing, and compensation/benefit administration, payroll administration, employee relations, performance management and employment compliance.
  • Human resources generalist experience required.
