Overview

We are currently seeking a Global Trade Compliance & Customs Manager to ensure customs and corporate compliance for our subsidiary divisions throughout the world. This position will develop and implement systems and policies to administer documented processes to import and export products and supplies.  This role will require an in depth and up to date knowledge of customs rules and regulations and other related requirements for global shipping.  The Manager will resolve complex issues and expedite solutions with customs officials, customers, shippers, and suppliers. 

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage customs and trade compliance across the globe for each division, ensuring that all global regulations are understood.
  • Determine customs classifications and regulatory requirements (licenses, certificates, etc.), country of origin determination, Free Trade Agreement qualification and valuation
  • Audit import and export customs documentation to ensure accuracy of records; provide corrective action as needed
  • Ensure company controls, policies, procedures, processes and applications are understood by the team and provide ongoing training to keep internal and external partners up with changing trade compliance policies and are implemented accordingly;
  • Communicate, streamline and update SOP’s as needed
  • Ensure that adequate internal reviews are conducted to maintain the desired level of Trade compliance at each location
  • Serve as main point of contact with all divisions globally for all internal customs questions
  • Develop new strategies to streamline processes and reduce cost
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor international logistics operations
  • Work with divisions on the selection of and contracts with customs brokerage companies.
  • Help foster trusting relationships with vendors and team members
  • Define Customs needs to support new business models and implement solutions
  • Perform due diligence checks on new suppliers or customers when required to do so.
  • Ensure all supplier or customer authorizations are valid and kept up to date.
  • Manage the company’s interface using customs authorities.
  • Company may assign other duties, in addition to or in lieu of those described above, according to the needs of the location or Company

Qualifications

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • 5+ years’ experience in Global Supply Chain, Import / Export Compliance
  • 5+ years’ experience in the logistics industry (air and ocean)
  • Forwarding / Brokerage experience

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent understanding of International Trade, Export and Import controls Compliance and Customs regulations
  • Significant experience in or working with operations, manufacturing or supply chain
  • Knowledge of BIS/ECO/EAR/ITAR regulations
  • Previous exposure to the development of business policies and process governance within an international business
  • Deep understanding of China 301 tariffs and exclusions
  • Previous experience working with international government agencies
  • AEO application experience would be beneficial for this role.
  • Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions.
  • Able to work successfully on an independent basis
  • Able to deal with people at all levels
  • Business acumen to understand operational interaction between departments and different subsidiary organizations
  • Creative and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel, attend seminars and conferences relating to custom and trade compliance
