  • Overview



    The Sr. Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of new and existing products. This position partners with other internal departments in the development and testing of new products, market research, key account presentations, and apprentice programs. This role includes supervision of the lab technician and direct mentorship/guidance of other design engineers.



    • Work closely with the product management team to turn customer needs and concepts into engineered new products to attain the technical, economic and functional goals set by new product criteria.
    • Execute creative development and detailed analysis of designs (including complex assemblies) to insure functional design intent, manufacturing capability and quality.
    • Work in conjunction with manufacturing and quality departments to create manufacturing processes, quality plans and inspection criteria. Perform necessary testing of first article samples to verify design intent.
    • Provide technical support to the corrective action process for assigned products.
    • Provide project leadership in determining time to market and project costs (i.e. tooling, prototyping, product costs) and drive project(s) to meet these metrics.
    • Provide technical support for existing products on design related matters involving customer inquiries, applications, quality or cost improvement opportunities.
    • Propose new and improved products to meet new requirements, standards and marketplace opportunities. 
    • Maintain awareness, and act as the subject matter expert, of current and anticipated approval agency requirements (i.e., NEC, UL, CSA) and applicable industry standards (i.e. ANSI, SAE, ASTM). 
    • Demonstrated leadership by providing the management team with written and verbal project status reports; collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
    • Participate as a member of a cross functional team and /or project team as required.



    • BSME or equivalent with minimum of 7-10 years design experience of electrical components.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience DFMA for injection molded components required.
    • Experience with other manufacturing processes; CNC machining, high speed stamping, rapid prototyping, etc. is preferred.
    • Understanding of component and assembly level product design and development.
    • Established project management competences.
    • Demonstrated sense of urgency with decision making capabilities.
    • Results oriented and self-motivated with a positive attitude.



    • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical component testing methodologies.
    • Ability to convey technical concepts in an easily understood manner.
    • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
    • Experience in Voice of Customer (VOC) processes.
    • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks Moldflow, MS Project, MS Office Suite.
    • PPAP, DFMEA, GMP/GAMP a plus.
