  • Overview


    The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design and development of new and existing products. This position also partners with other internal departments in the development and testing of new products, manufacturing support, market research, key account presentation, and field sales support as needed.


    • Conceptualize, design, prototype, test, and analyze new products to attain the technical, economic and functional goals set by new product criteria.
    • Provide planning and support to assure progress of new products through design, prototyping, and costing and pilot run release on a timely basis.
    • Propose new and improved products to meet new requirements, standards and marketplace opportunities. 
    • Provide technical support for existing products on design related matters involving customer inquiries, applications, quality or cost improvement opportunities.
    • Analyze field failures and assemblies to determine root cause.
    • Maintain awareness of current and anticipated approval agency requirements (i.e., NEC, UL, CSA) and applicable industry standards (i.e. ANSI, SAE, ASTM). Participate in UL listing and CSA certification of assigned new products.



    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Experience with Solidworks 3D modeling software
    • Minimum four years’ experience designing mechanical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies
    • Demonstrated sense of urgency
    • Results oriented, self-motivated
    • Experience using a variety of business and engineering computer applications, i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, MathCAD
    • Ability to write mechanical test procedures and instructions, develop test fixtures, perform tests, document data and make conclusions.
    • Experience in Voice of Customer (VOC) processes



    • Knowledge and experience with various forms of manufacturing processes such as, plastic injection molding, die casting, extruding, and stamping.
    • Hands on experience with building and testing prototypes.
    • A candidate should possess excellent visualization skills.
    • Based on experience be able to source prototype parts and materials
    • Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
    • Knowledge 2D drawings creation and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) a must
    • Strong organizational skills especially in document control
    • Knowledge of Bill of Material (BOM) and engineering change control processes
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary
