    The Controls Engineer is responsible for a wide variety of duties supporting the design and construction of custom automation equipment/systems used for the purpose of manufacturing products at all IDEAL divisions.  The position reports to the Automation Technical Supervisor and is responsible for construction, assembly, and troubleshooting of automation equipment designed by the Automation Engineers within the team.




    • Work as a Team with the Automation Group as an integral part of the design, development and build process of high tech automation equipment.
    • Design, document and build electrical control panels and systems to the latest standards.
    • Specify PLCs, sensors, HMIs, data acquisition, vision systems, robotics and all applicable control components for simple and complex automation equipment.
    • Light Fabrication of parts as required.
    • Perform electrical wiring of Automation equipment as required.
    • Perform part and system testing as required.
    • Coordinate activities with engineering and manufacturing to professionally install and support new equipment moves.
    • Insure quality of all parts produced in assigned work area.
    • Attain safety, quality and productivity goals.
    • Complete correspondence, documentation and reports as required.
    • Maintain safety and good housekeeping practices and lead by example.
    • Read, follow and become familiar with all details and work instructions.
    • Participate in Continual Improvement activities.
    • Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies.
    • Support and training at customers sites.
    • Other related support


    • Engineering degree in electrical or controls engineering.
    • PLC, HMI programming and troubleshooting
    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in automation equipment controls or related experience.
    • Fabrication and machining experience (Machine shop or Tool Room experience is a plus).
    • Experience in control panel design, layout, and assembly.
    • Ability to wire controls for machines
    • Some travel required.
