SUMMARY OF POSITION

This position manages a team of technicians and engineers to support existing products and to create and execute an innovative new product funnel that supports the company’s strategy and enables significant growth. The Engineering Manager will work closely with Marketing, Sales and Customers to understand customer problems and bring new products and solutions to market to solve those problems.

Responsibilities

    • Direct the activities of the product development group to achieve on-time and on-budget projects.
    • Build a culture of productivity, innovation, quality, employee engagement and customer-focus.
    • Build and maintain a new product funnel that drives >$10M of annual incremental revenue.
    • Collaborate with Marketing, Sales and Customers to identify opportunities and solutions to drive organic growth.
    • Build and develop the engineering team into a proactive solutions focused team.
    • Provide long-term projection of project schedules, identifying and mitigating risks. Ensure performance, quality and reliability are maintained throughout the design cycle.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of engineering design, documentation, and bill of material for products on a global level. Track and document project successes, failures, and lessons learned across projects to continuously improve the product development function. 
    • Provide technical guidance to senior leadership team members including Quality, Sourcing, Operations, Customer Support and Marketing with respect to technology.
    • Research and resolve product integrity issues with a very high sense of urgency. 
    • Ensure new products meet all UL, IEC or other applicable regulatory requirements. 
    • Effectively use financial metrics along with evaluation of technical risk to make concrete decisions on level of project investments.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with ten (10) or more years’ experience in product and process design. Advanced engineering degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the design of power products, electro-mechanical devices and electronics packaging.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a cross functional team to develop innovative solutions that meet critical customer needs.
  • Experience with quality and reliability processes, supplier qualification and part approval requirements.
  • Demonstrated competence with SolidWorks and office software applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (mechanical and heat transfer) simulation software.
  • Experience leading product development teams and demonstrated success meeting project timetables

  • Demonstrated success bringing in complex engineering projects on time and on budget.
  • Ability to lead a team of Technicians, Engineers and Designers, successfully executing concurrent projects based on the changing priorities of the business.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to lead effectively across functions (operations, product management, procurement, etc.)
  • Able to think creatively, strategically and effectively communicate a clear vision
  • Able to understand new technology and identify unique/elegant solutions quickly.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions and implement recommendations.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
