The Senior Manufacturing Engineer researches, plans, trains, executes, and facilitates operational improvement programs to create a culture of continuous improvement using Lean manufacturing methods that lead to employee empowerment, elimination of waste, and key result improvement.

Specifically, the goal of this position is to improve safety, reduce cost, improve quality, improve equipment maintainability and effectiveness and reduce process set‑up times.

Responsibilities

Continuous Improvement Projects   

  • Lead continuous improvement projects through cross-functional team facilitation and project management.
  • Use Lean manufacturing tools (5S, Poke Yoke, Visual Management, TPM, Quick Change, Value stream mapping, Kaizen, 5S, Gemba walks, root cause problem solving) to identify and develop solutions that drive operational improvement.
  • Provide leadership by mentoring associates in the use of Lean tools, ensuring transfer of knowledge and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collect and analyze data on manufacturing processes, procedures, and performance using evaluation tools while developing action plans to drive improvement in direct labor costs, set‑up time, quality, cost, and product lead time.
  • Conduct experiments to determine optimum manufacturing processes.
  • Prepare cost analysis for justification of new or reworked equipment and tooling.
  • Track, monitor, and report regularly on project status; monitor product and process improvement milestones to ensure on-time completion and sustainability.
  • Analyze, develop, implement, and standardize manufacturing best practices. 

 

New Product Projects

  • Responsible for timely and accurate cost information, reviewing the design for manufacturability, concurrent engineering, reviewing design specifications for completeness and reviewing the impact the product will have on injection molding capacities and capabilities.  
  • Responsible for the conceptual design, final manufacturing process approval, ordering, implementation and qualification of tooling in a timely manner. 
  • Responsible for coordinating the tooling, material, equipment and methods for processing the new product in order to produce the desired quality at the lowest cost.  

 

Capital Equipment

  • Identify needs, investigate, specify, and economically justify the purchase of new capital equipment. 
  • Coordinate installation and introduction of new equipment and processes.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years experience applying Lean concepts and tools (5S, value stream mapping, visual workplace, flow and pull manufacturing, etc.).
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to lead/facilitate Kaizen teams and influence direction.
  • Self-motivated, self-directing, strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and draw actionable conclusions
  • Must have the ability to achieve goals and produce results with minimal supervision and direction

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering related field or engineering technology (B.S.M.E., B.S.G.E., or B.S.I.E.)
