The Western Forge Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the operations of multiple manufacturing plants located in Colorado Springs, CO.  This leadership position is responsible for setting the direction and achieving results through the entire operations team. This must be accomplished in an environment where safety is first and a balanced ‘lean’ attack continually achieves and improves Quality/Housekeeping/Service levels/Productivity. This position must partner with other functional areas, customers and suppliers in order to align operational activities with established business objectives and product/customer requirements. All of this must be done in alignment with our culture, core values, LEAN and a safety first approach.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Drive a culture and management style that encourages teamwork, cooperation, participative management techniques, and the employee relations philosophy of IDEAL.
  • Lead production management/supervision, manufacturing engineering and maintenance to surpass key production metrics by department, including: production rates, on-time delivery, productivity improvements (i.e., Lean Improvements & Operating Efficiency) and quality.
  • Partner with supply chain, product development, finance and human resources to ensure these support functions are aligned with production relative to achieving business objectives.
  • Develop and manage key third party vendor contracts and relations.
  • Manage the Production Planning process (i.e., KANBAN & Make-to-Order methodologies) and associated activities to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Participate in the development of strategic plans to support the commercial strategy and business objectives with a clearly defined operations project list.
  • Participate in budget activities, including development of the annual budget and monthly spending controls throughout the year.
  • Make decisions and drive results for the Plant based on an understanding and interpretation of internal business objectives and customer requirements.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 of those years supervising both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Experience successfully working with other business functions including: Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and Sales/Marketing.
  • Proven track record of applying Lean manufacturing principles to drive plant efficiencies.
  • B.S. degree in manufacturing management, engineering or other related field of study.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate responsibility and to work with others and coach them to develop their capabilities
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including presentation, listening and managing skills as required working in and managing teams. Solid conflict resolution and problem solving skills a must.
  • Ability to identify and manage projects from concept to implementation and successfully drive project results.
  • Able to understand, interpret and act on financials/budgets as they relate to the Plant.
  • Sets clear expectations, delegates effectively, monitors progress, provides timely feedback and drives issues to closure
  • Makes decisions confidently and wisely. Takes into account the alternative course of action and considers all options. Makes sound, well-informed and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions.
  • Systematically applies 80/20 to all aspects of the business and leads their team to stay focused on top priorities
  • Demonstrates the technical competence required to perform the position effectively.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of business ethics and consistently adheres to and promotes key values and principles in all business and personal transactions; Contributes to maintaining the integrity of the organization; displays high standards of ethical conduct; is trustworthy.
