The Product Development Manager is responsible for supporting SK Tool’s long term strategic plan by driving new product development through both internal and external product development. The Product Development Manager will work with the Director of Marketing to develop the strategic product plan for the business (new product ideas, market research, financial justification, etc.) and is responsible for new product design, engineering, and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the strategic product roadmap
  • Work with purchasing to identify and qualify external suppliers for line additions.
  • Lead the internal product development process from new product concept, through design and engineering and manufacturability to product launch.
  • Work with engineering to document product development timeline and execution to agreed upon plan.
  • Coordinate with marketing communications and sustaining product management for product launch.
  • Manage the external customer insights process to identify appropriate product expansion opportunities.
  • Oversee external product submission evaluation process
  • Coordinate innovation with corporate R&D and ensure company intellectual property is properly safeguarded.
  • Develop financial models to understand product development ROI and prioritize company development resources.
  • Continually improve knowledge of size and share of markets into which assigned products can be sold
  • Support the Sales and Marketing teams on the execution of business unit and product strategies
  • Responsible continual understanding of the competitive product landscape including product features, performance, applications, and innovation to drive ongoing strategy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10 years product development and management experience
  • Previous experience managing a cross-functional team that includes both product management and engineering
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, innovative environment with a sense of urgency for delivering new products to market
  • Experience in product engineering or mechanical engineering
  • Experience in hand tool related field considered a plus
  • Previous experience developing short and long range strategic plans for both business and product
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the product innovation and development process
  • Proven ability to build the business case for new products and successfully drive that though to product launch
  • Knowledge and successful application of 80/20 and product line simplification
  • Able to gather and use appropriate data to drive product decisions with proven success
  • Must be able to effectively drive team results
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, stamping, casting, forging, injection molding, etc.
